Shops are buildings that produce a specific product, which is collected in exchange for Template:Bits, Template:XP, and in rare cases Template:Gem. Prior to Update 4.1, a maximum of three ponies could be assigned to the shops, to produce one of two products. Each pony assigned had to have a specific star requirement to work in the shop, and the third pony assigned to a shop - which also required the highest number of stars - boosted the shop's production.

Update 4.1 introduced a completely new system that eliminated the requirement of ponies for the shops to produce, as well as one of the two products produced in each shop, turning shop production into a completely automated system.
