Friends are an important aspect of gameplay. They are other people who also play the game, and they can be presented with a gift once every 24 hours, and they can be given a treasure chest once every 24 hours.
Friends are accessed via the Menu Scroll, under the "Social" button. When "Social" is tapped, a new screen appears showing the player all of his or her friends, as well as other Gameloft, Facebook or Google+ friends who can be invited. Gifts are collected in the Inbox tab accessed from the same screen.
When viewing friends, the first one will always be Princess Celestia, then the order will be higher to lower level. Players have the option to gift individual friends by tapping on them and selecting the present icon, or to visit them to leave a present by tapping on the pony house icon. If the player is pressed for time, he or she may select the "Gift All" option to send a gift to all friends.
For those under 13 the game automatically provides eight friends: Princess Celestia (level 50), Princess Cadance (level 40), Spike (level 30), Rainbow Dash (level 2), Pinkie Pie (level 20), Applejack (level 50), Fluttershy (level 30), and Rarity (level 30). They all have towns that can be visited, but the state of their towns does not match their reported level. Princess Cadance, Spike and Rainbow Dash's town layouts are the same. The social icon is colored pink and has only one horseshoe rather than two.
In Windows 8, there is only Facebook option.
Adding friends
New friends can be added to one's Gameloft Live account through the game as follows:
- Click on the scroll on the upper-right
- Select the "GL Live!" icon (the blue square)
- If necessary, create a Gameloft Live account
- Scroll down on the menu on the left to "Friends".
- Click on the orange button to invite a friend. Note that they will not be added until they have accepted your invitation.
- Scroll further down on the menu on the left, to "Messages"
- Under the "Requests" tab, you will find any messages from people who may have added you as friends. Feel free to accept or reject them as you prefer.
Once an invitation has been accepted, the people in question will appear under your Social tab and can have gifts and treasure chests sent to them.
