A Mermare's Tale is an almost weekly Limited-Time Blitz that is first held on February 9, 2023 in Update 8.1, without community section.

It's our pleasure. After all, we've only just arrived...this might be the local foals' first time saying "hello" to us in person! It's important that we make a good impression...

...And THAT is all the ways that Mermares are different than Sirens, Kelpies, and Seaponies! I know that can be confusing to land creatures sometimes...

Ooh! I have a question! I have a question! Mr. Hoofbeard, how did you and Miss Jewel become Very Special The-Two-Of-Yous? And also...why do you have gills!?
Ha ha! That's a very good question...and appropriate for the time of year, too since Hearts and Hooves Day is coming up! And I should know, because I was there for some of it...
In fact... Hoofbeard? Jewel? Why don't the three of us all take turns telling it together! It all started when my friends and I traveled to Horseshoe Bay for a day of beachtime fun...
Yes! Oh, it was a brave and heroic display of piraticality, it was, too! I buckled SO many swashes that afternoon, it was really... (AHEM--) ...Really something.
...And after we docked at the Gallopinghost Islands, my friends made a VERY important discovery: the map Hoofbeard was looking for was hidden in the lair of a GHOST CRAB!
But, of course, Hoofbeard and I weren't there for that part... We were still on the ship with Applejack and Spike, drinking pineapple juice and talking about our feelings--
NO WAIT-- (AHEM--) Er... Pay this kind-hearted and fuzzy-memoried friend of mine no heed, me young hearties! For while she surely means well, her account be somewhat...muddled! Yes.
For ya see, I was NOT cowerin' on me ship out of a sense of misplaced pride and generalzed paranoia, but rather...fightin' the ghost crab for me map!
After Stage 1
Okay... I was there for THIS part of the story, too, and... None of that actually happened? Come on, Hoofbeard!
Heehee! That's very true, Hoofbeard. Why don't we all retell that last part of the story together...the REAL story, this time!
And then I said, "HA HARRR! AVAST, YE SCURVY CRAB!" And then the CRAB said... Well, the crab kept mum, on account of how crabs ain't the sociable type, but--
Oh, Hoofbeard... You'll have to forgive my Very Special Some-Pirate, foals - apparently, he still thinks he has to tell tall tales to prove how worthy he is.
I didn't fall in love with him because he fought a sea monster for me, or because he's good with a cutlass or can sail all seven seas... I fell in love with him because he CARES!
He's the one who spent all those years trying to find me... And once he did, he's the one who convinced my family to accept our love for one another! That's more than enough for me.
Aheh... Right you are, my Jewel... And apologies for spinnin' you lads and lasses a yarn.
Unlike a certain orange pony I know, we pirates don't always take to honesty natural-like! But we can always try and be better...especially when it's for the ones we love!

...And so, after my impassioned speechifyin' - and with me matey Fluttershy waxin' poetical on how love survives even over vast distances - Jewel's family welcomed me with open fins!
And to answer your question, me piratical young colt...the gills are courtesy of Twilight Sparkle's magic! A gift, so that my sweetheart and me can breathe the same waters!
