King Sombra is a former tyrannical overlord of the Crystal Empire who lives in the Sinister Castle in Canterlot and in King Sombra's Castle in the Crystal Empire. He was originally added for every player in the Everfree Forest update as the game's 2nd anniversary gift. Players can now obtain him by completing the Crystal Empire Quests.
Similar to Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, he will occasionally do a unique animation and generate one of each of the Element Shards. He also shares royal sisters' arrival animation (flying on his own instead of hot air balloon) though he doesn't have wings.
Like Princess Cadence, he starts with five stars, but cannot participate in Clear The Skies or the Crystal Mine game.
