Treasure chests are gifts that can be sent to Friends by visiting their town and you can send them by going into the social button which is located in the top right corner of the screen. A chest contains 3 
. As well as giving chests to your friends they can also give you chests which you can find in the Inbox which is in the social menu. Chests can be sent every 24 hours.
As of Update 10.8 you can see who you exchanged chests with within last 24h at the bottom of your friends list.
