This might be the most interesting friendship problem I've had in a while... because it's also a CURRICULUM PROBLEM! To the Changeling section of the bookstore!!!

Yeah. I haven't read all of these textbooks yet, but all six of us are in here... as Changelings. And we're not Changelings in real life! (Unless there's something Pinkie Pie isn't telling me...)

Story
Introduction
I just got the weirdest letter... "Dear Pony Instructress-Overseer: Our Changeling broodlings are being taught all wrong in that newfangled 'school' we've got in the Hive."
"I've got it on good authority I'll hate you, but I need you to come sit in on a class and tell the 'teacher' she doesn't know her antennae from her abdomen."
"Glory to the Hive... Pharynx." Wow. I mean, rude, but... I think Thorax's grumpy older brother is asking me for my opinion as an educator?

After 1st quest
Huh. So I bought every book used in the Changeling Hive's Larvalsorri School (I think that's what they call their elementary education system)...
... And I think I might know what Pharynx is mad about. Some of these stories in the Changeling History curriculum are... uh... awfully familiar. Let me read an example...
"That's when Pinkie Pie helped save the Hive from a swarm of Parasprites, by... using her Changeling powers to turn into a songbird, and lead them away with music."

After 2nd quest
Pharynx! I'm not late, am I? I know you said to meet me in the classroom, but I wanted to bring Zecora with me, since she has storytelling experience, and--
Sir: I don't want to repeat myself, but the curriculum was EXTENSIVELY vetted by the Feeling's Forum's Education Policy Sharing Circle, and--
Well, I DO want to repeat myself, and I'm saying it can go get cocooned! Telling our broodlings all kinds of made-up hooey about Pony Changelings and Changeling Ponies--
Uh... Is this part of our class?
Yeah, I thought Debate Team was supposed to happen AFTER school...
Oh no... Looks like we just walked into an argument -- and worse, it's interrupting the scheduled learning progress for those Changeling kids! Zecora, could you help calm things down?
After 1st stage
... Okay! Now that everyone's settled, I think we can start talking about the maulwurf in the room.
Do you kids... REALLY think Changelings were the ones who went on these adventures in your textbooks? Because a lot of these creatures are my friends, and I'm pretty sure they're--
Wait -- you're friends with them?! That's amazing! The Change Six are maybe my favorite creatures EVER!
Mine too! Ooh -- remember that story about how Applejack shifted into a Fruit Bat to help her friend get away from the Mandiblehattan Police?
... When everychangeling thought they'd stolen the Orthroheimer Diamond from Clawnegie Hall?! You BET I do! Aw, Applejack's just the best...

Perhaps I can help you retell this story? (You DID bring me here for my oratory...)
After 2nd stage
O... kay. Well, that DID happen... sort of... but there are a few historically significant details that I couldn't help but notice are--
Oh! Oh! Or what about the time when Ocellus joined the School of Friendship's cheer squad, but she was having trouble speaking up in practice?
Yes! Great! I mean, that counts more as "current events" than history, but that's a GREAT example of--
Yeah! So Coach Rainbow Dash shifted into a giant Megaphonobeast to help her cheer super loud at the big game!
... Um.
After 3rd stage
Oh! Oh! And that class we just did on the Convocation of Creatures! Remember Urtica, that awesome Changeling librarian? She and Twilight Sparkle TOTALLY saved the day!
YES! We did! And I would know, because I was--
Yeah! Twilight Sparkle -- the OTHER Changeling librarian! She was there, too.
OH, COME ON.
After 4th stage
Whuh... Buh... But... HISTORY, and... So... confused...
I... er... I think I can clear some of this up. You see, most of the teachers here in the hive... well, ALL of us, really... we're ashamed of the way we used to be. ... "Back then."
Stealing love... serving Queen Chrysalis... We and our ancestors weren't exactly role models. And since these kids were hatched after the metamorphosis, and don't know any better...
We... uh... we thought we'd "borrow" some role models from you ponies. To use as teaching tools! We just want out broodlings to have somecreature to look up to...
... Huh. That certainly explains a lot... Well, it's a little unorthodox, but I guess I don't see the harm in--
Uh-uh. Kids: Do ol' Pharynx a favor and tell the nice pony that story you were taught about ME.
Oh! You mean the one where you and Changeling Fluttershy cuddled a Chupacabra into being a better friend? That one's great!
After 5th stage
Wow. That... never actually happened, did it? Like, no matter WHAT kind of creature Fluttershy was supposed to be?
Ohhh, no. Not ONLY was that "Fluttershy" character not there, I wasn't even reformed! And I wasn't snuggling that Chupacabra, either -- I was chasing it away! At Chrysalis's orders...
*sigh...* Look. I'm not proud of what we Changelings were before our metamorphosis, either. I've owned up to that. Apologized to who I did wrong by, tried to be a better creature...
But that's exactly why our broodlings need to know the TRUE story of our past -- not some candy-colored fairy tale! Otherwise... how will they learn to be better than their ancestors?
Uh... No offense meant about the "candy-colored" part, Princess.
None taken! You know, the history of ponykind hasn't been all sweetness and light, either... Just ask Princess Luna.
But she and I would both tell you: The best role model -- of ANY species -- is anycreature who works to be better than they once were!
Right! Like this one drone I know... He was a REAL piece o' work before he reformed, but now? He's putting on art exhibitions with some fancy pony, in honor of friendship!
After 6th stage
That's a great example, Pharynx! And there are plenty of other Changelings out there doing similar work.
You remember Urtica, my archivist friend? She's been preserving records of pre-reformation Changeling history, so that future generations don't make the same mistakes.
That's right -- and don't forget, there's plenty of Changelings who tried to do the right thing even in the bad old days! My little brother, for one...
Of course! Thorax is MORE than worth looking up to.
And who knows? If Changelings keep learning from their past,and keep sharing love instead of draining it... Someday, even Queen Chrysalis might fight for the side of friendship!

(Heehee!) Well... Queen Chrysalis aside, you've certainly convinced ME> How would you all like to work with the Education Policy Sharing Circle to help revise our curriculum?
I think, with the two of you there, we can make sure what we teach our broodlings is both inspiring AND honest.
