Crystal Ghost Chaos! is a siege event that was first held on August 4, 2023. It ran again in summer 2024. The story is based on the My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #4 comic.

Oh... she just ran to the corner store. Hehe... I think she's really excited about our plans today.

Oof. It's a little hard to carry all this... but it'll be worth it! Now I just need a quick rules refresher in case the girls have any questions...

Twily! And everypony else! I'm so happy you could all join us!
I talked with all the castle courtiers and made special arrangements... No royal duties are gonna get in the way of today's O&O session like last time!
Last time? But, big bro, it's been YEARS since we've played Ogres & Oubliettes together.
I meant the last time you came to visit me. Remember? Cadence was out of town, and the staff was all freaking out over a supposed "crystal ghost"...
Let me think... Oh, did it involve a couple of fast-talking courtiers? They were nice and all, but they seemed intent on... um... being my oubliette-masters, so to speak!
After Stage 1
You remember correctly, my dear sister-and-monster-hunting-partner. But for now, think of them not as my staff... but as dungeon mini-bosses! Today's session is based on that day...
Uhh, when are you guys gonna clue us in on the story, here?
Patience! Your OM will reveal everything in due time... Now, you all have your character sheets ready, right?
Of course! I'm a chaos sorcerer barbarian with a tragic backstory! See, one day I undercooked my pie, and--
Hold on, hold on! THIS story begins with two young heroes, years before they meet all their friends and their, um, chaos sorcerer barbarian...
Young Evening Light and her brother, Luminous Greaves, in their quest to become monster hunters, seek out their father to teach them the way! They must become adept in sleuthing and combat, both!
After Stage 2
Now adequately trained, the monster-hunting duo are surprised to receive a call to action from the princess of an ancient crystal castle...
But Shining-- I mean, Luminous Greaves (hehe), we've barely had any experience! I mean, I'm only... level two?
That's why it's so surprising! Nopony else would take this job...
...Except a ragtag team of adventurers that have ALSO been hired out of sheer desperation!
Let's see... There's the paladin, Applejacked... the rogue, Rainbow Dagger... the druid, Flutter-Lullaby... the wizard, Oddity... and the... whatever Pinkie is.

Yeah, that! Anyway...
Our heroes find terrified townspeople beset by strange happenings! The overworked palace courtiers have their hooves full trying to keep the peace, but it's high time to tackle the issue!
After Stage 3
Fine, we'll talk! I suppose we should be more proactive in addressing the problems instead of pretending they don't exist...
Maybe these folks really CAN help us. I hear two of them are up-and-coming monster hunters... and the others have powers that barely follow the rules of this game!
Okay, heroes, our problems are many. Books are vanishing from the library, crystal berries have gone missing en masse, and strange smells waft through the royal halls!
Strange smells? You mean...? (Tee hee!)
(AHEM--) My good courtiers, perhaps you would recommend an issue on which we could focus our powers first?
Good idea, Oddity the Wizard-y! The courtiers direct you and your friends to the library, but warn you to watch out for the watchful librarian... What will you do?
W-Well... if it's an animal that's taking all the books, it might be good to set a trap? I-I mean! A nice trap! One that doesn't hurt! Because, what if it needs those books for its nest, or... um... anyway...
After Stage 4
That was a great idea, Flutter-Lullaby! With your song, your trap worked, and you lulled something peacefully into your very large net...!
Unfortunately, that "something" turned out to be the librarian! "Hey, you--" (AHEM.) I mean...
I was looking for whatever made off with those OVERDUE library books when I found myself accosted by you lot. Now will you let me out of this confounded net?
Oh, of course, sir! Applejack-- I mean, Applejacked, can you help me, please?
BUT, as Applejacked the mighty paladin goes to help her friend, her enormous muscles bump up against an inconspicuous button on the fireplace...
Leapin' lizards! Uh, um, I cast Crushin' Blow on the fireplace--!
HOOOLD on, Applejacked! The completely innocent fireplace reveals a secret passageway...
Let's go inside, gang! Flutter-Lullaby, I liked your trap idea... Why don't you travel up front with me, just in case we really are dealing with an animal!
After Stage 5
What gives? Why'd those guards attack us?!
We simply wanted to test your mettle and make sure you're ready for the labyrinth that lays in wait, just ahead...
That's right! We can't just let innocent citizens wander inside!
Well, I think we're ready now, right, everypony? I mean, we're like level 4 now!
Well said! You continue down the passage into an eerie cave lined with enormous ancient statues...
Ooh, ooh! Let Applejacked and I take the lead this time! If there's a big scary monster, we can tackle it, no problem!
Looming in the gloom, sure enough, is a giant labyrinth, just like the guard said! Could there be a big, scary monster at its center...? Only the daring will find out!
After Stage 6
GRAAAHHH! I CAST PARTY CANNON FOR THE FINAL BLOW!
Wait, Pinkie-- Um, Pinka-meana!!! This monster might not be as ferocious as it looks! See, here? If we just reference its picture in the Monster-Pedia...
Boo-hoo-hoo... I've been locked up in here for centuries! Kept as a pet by the evil king that once ruled this castle, all I have for fun are the books I borrow from the library!
Hmm... okay, I guess you don't deserve to get party-cannoned. Let's get this ghosty guy out of here!
It's a good idea, but remember, the staff will all be terrified of him, and the librarian will be furious! What can you do...?
We can't just leave him here! The poor dear...
Heh, well, if the librarian won't listen... I say we MAKE him listen! C'mon, let's get this Crystal Bard integrated into society! WITH FIGHTING!
After Stage 7
Well, it was a pretty unorthodox technique, but the librarian is pleased with the results! The Crystal Bard loves books as much as he does...
AND it sings a lovely song that reverberates throughout the crystal castle, cheering the staff and all the townspeople! The mystery is solved!
W-Wait, what about all the other mysteries? You know, the missing berries and the weird smell?
Um... Sorry, guys, that'll have to wait for next time! I have a meeting about a crystal berry shortage to get to, and I'm five minutes late already!
Ending
You know, I've never done anything like that before! I daresay it was fun to play such a serious game of pretend. And it was based on a real adventure of yours, Twilight?
Yeah! Shining Armor and I really did find a Crystal Bard under the castle. I think he's still working in the library if you guys want to meet him!
But I owe it all to the Monster-Pedia! My big brother and I've had it memorized since we were kids... Even though he's busy, I know it'll always bring us together.
Hopefully for another round of Ogres & Oubliettes!
